Archaeological finds show that both moose and deer were present in Norway in the Stone Age, and that they were sought after as a food resource. The population development of Norwegian deer was modest in both numbers and geographical distribution until the early 1970s.

THE DEER HAD A HIGH STAR IN NORSE MYTHOLOGY:
Valhalla was ruled by the god Odin. This was the place where Vikings who had fallen in battle ended up. "The deer Eikthynir stands on top of Valhalla, and from its antlers water drips into the well Hvergelmir, which was the source of all the rivers in the world."
